Very glossy floors may look luxurious in photos, but in real life they’re often not very practical for busy family areas. High-gloss surfaces show every footprint, smudge and speck of dust, so they demand frequent cleaning to look good. They can also be more slippery, especially when wet, which isn’t ideal with kids, older people or pets running around.
In strong sunlight, glossy floors reflect glare, which some people find uncomfortable. Scratches also stand out more clearly compared to matte or satin finishes. Over time, that showroom shine can actually make the floor look more worn because imperfections are so easy to see.
For living rooms, kitchens and hallways where everyone moves around all day, a mid-sheen or matte finish is usually kinder. It hides minor marks better and feels more relaxed. If you love gloss, consider using it in smaller, less-trafficked spaces where maintenance is easier.
