It’s smart to keep renovation photos and receipts for at least as long as you own the home, and definitely for a minimum of 5–7 years. Photos of the work in progress, especially of walls and floors before they’re closed up, are incredibly useful. They show where pipes, wires, beams and junction boxes are. When you want to drill, hang something heavy, or fix a future issue, those pictures become a secret map.
Receipts matter for several reasons. They help with warranty claims if a product fails early, they’re evidence for insurance if there’s damage, and they support you if you ever need to prove how much you invested in improving the property. Some buyers also appreciate seeing legitimate records when you sell.
Organise them in a simple folder – digital or physical. Label them by room or type of work. Even if you don’t look at them often, the day you need them, you’ll be very glad you didn’t throw everything away once the dust settled and paint dried.
