Before using any new product across the whole room, do a small patch test in an inconspicuous corner. Apply a little bit of the cleaner diluted as directed, wait a few minutes, then wipe and let the area dry completely. Check for any dulling, discolouration, stickiness or changes in texture compared to the surrounding floor.

If the finish looks the same and doesn’t feel tacky or rough, it’s likely safe to use more widely. If you see cloudiness or the colour looks lighter or darker, stop immediately and rinse the area with clean water.

This small test saves you from ruining an entire floor with one enthusiastic mopping session. It’s especially important for natural stone, wood and laminate, which can react badly to harsh or acidic cleaners. When in doubt, choose products specifically labelled for your type of flooring.
