Yes, on the ground floor it’s wise to have proper locking mechanisms on windows, not just simple latches that hold them shut. A latch mainly keeps a window from drifting open; it doesn’t necessarily stop someone who wants to push or pry it. A lock, even a basic one, adds an extra step and makes the window less attractive as an easy entry.
This doesn’t mean you need heavy bars on every opening (unless your area genuinely demands that). But adding lockable handles, key locks or additional locking pins can make a big difference. In many modern systems, these are built in; older windows might need add-on hardware.
It’s about layering security. You might still open windows during the day for air, but at night or when you’re out, they can be properly secured. For upper floors, the risk is lower, but for ground-floor windows, especially those hidden from the street, locks are a small upgrade with a lot of benefit.
