For most homeowners who also have jobs and families, 1–2 focused hours a day is realistic during active renovation. That doesn’t mean you stand there watching every brick being laid; it means you drop in once or twice at predictable times, check progress, answer questions, and catch mistakes early.
In the early planning stage, you might need longer meetings – to confirm layouts, electrical points, or tile directions. But once work is running, short daily visits work better than long, rare ones. A quick review of what was done yesterday and what’s planned for today keeps everyone aligned.
If you try to supervise all day, every day, it quickly becomes exhausting and can even slow workers down because they feel constantly watched. On the flip side, if you disappear for a week, decisions will be made for you, sometimes not the way you imagined.
So aim for a routine: maybe early morning before work or evening before they leave. Be available on phone for urgent calls, and set aside one slightly longer check-in each week. That balance usually keeps things on track without taking over your entire life.
